🦉 The Loft Owl - Convict Quarters, Clifton Estate, Locksley
Tucked within the stone and brick walls of the earliest home in Locksley, a carved owl keeps quiet watch from the loft above. This gentle sentinel, shaped into a round window in the upstairs bedroom of The Quarters, looks out over a landscape once walked by the Stonestreet brothers: Moses, William, and Levi, who first called this place home in the 1820s.
Part of the historic Clifton Estate, The Quarters is a rare surviving example of early convict craftsmanship. Its walls, still standing after nearly two centuries, hold echoes of a life built with grit and grace. Nearby flows the Fish River, where Moses would later purchase land, soil tilled with hope, persistence, and the strength of starting again.
The owl, both a symbol of wisdom and quiet endurance, a tribute to the legacy of this home and the stories that shaped it. You’ll see it perched in many of our pieces, from rustic table settings to curated decor. Quietly reminding us of the past that lives on in every detail.
